“Across the Drafts”

College Composition and Communication, December 2006

Here Sommers examines the “role feedback plays in the complex story of why some students prosper as college writers while others lag.” If teachers offer tough criticism with their comments, but also treat their students like equals, students are more likely to become engaged in their work, Sommers explains. That way, students might not only improve themselves with each assignment, but actually carry what they’ve learned from their revisions and interactions with instructors outside of the classroom.
