If you are entering your own questions into a quiz and using Essay questions, you will need to manually grade those questions once students complete the quiz.

Select the "Gradebook" from the home page

Click the paper icon

In the column for the quiz where you included Essay questions, click the paper icon to open a grading dialog box where you can grade the quiz. There will be one paper icon per student who completed the quiz.

Read and evaluate

Use the scroll bar on the right to navigate down through the responses.

Enter scores in the appropriate boxes

Note that you can use fractions for the scores in these boxes.

Add feedback

To add feedback, click Add Notes next to Feedback.

Specify feedback for which question

By default, this feedback is for the entire assignment. To indicate that feedback is for specific questions, use the numbering feature in the toolbar at the top of the dialog box to number your feedback according to question number.

Click "Submit Score" when you've completed grading the assignment

Edit score

If you need to regrade the assignment, click on the student's score in the gradebook. This will open the grading dialog box again so you can make changes.
