This article demonstrates how to copy a Blackboard course with integrated Macmillan content. Visit this article for instructions on copying or moving specific Blackboard course items or folders. Macmillan content uses the same functionality.

Access Content Market Tools

On the left menu of the Blackboard course that you wish to copy:

  1. Click the drop-down arrow to expand the menu for Control Panel
  2. Click the drop-down arrow to expand the menu for Course Tools
  3. Click on Content Market Tools
  4. Under Used in this Course in the right panel, click on the Macmillan icon

Note: Content Market Tools is called Commercial Content Tools in older versions of Blackboard. If Content Market Tools are not available in your Blackboard course, please follow the instructions in this article.

Click on the course homepage link at the top of "Macmillan Learning Tools"

Click the "Launch Content" link

Disable pop-up blockers in your web browser. Check your browser settings if you experience an error message.


Copy your Macmillan course

Follow these instructions to copy your Macmillan course and batch update your due dates (not available in Writer's Help 2.0). Make independent copies of your Macmillan course for new semesters. Only use the master course with branches when teaching multiple sections in a single term.

Copy your Blackboard course

  1. Click the drop-down arrow to expand the menu for Control Panel
  2. Click the drop-down arrow to expand the menu for Packages and Utilities
  3. Click Course Copy
  4. For Select Copy Type in the right panel, select Copy Course Materials into an Existing Course
  5. Under Select Copy Options, click Browse


In the pop-up window that appears:

  1. Type the name of your new course
  2. Click Search 
  3. Click the radio button to the left of the Course ID to select it
  4. Click Submit.



Select items to copy in the course

  1. Click Select All to copy the entire course, or
  2. Click the check boxes to select specific materials that you wish to copy over to the new course

Note: If selecting specific items, Macmillan content will always reside under Content Areas in the list of items.


  1. In the File Attachments section, select Copy links and copies of the content
  2. Click Submit

Do not select Include Enrollments in the Copy under Enrollments.

Confirm the course has been copied

Navigate to the new Blackboard course and confirm that the copy operation is complete.

A heading at the top of the Blackboard course homepage reads, "Source [course name] is complete. To access the detailed log, click here"

Link Macmillan course to Blackboard

Follow these instructions to link the new Macmillan course to Blackboard.

Note: If you do not link your new Macmillan course to Blackboard, the Macmillan links will produce error messages.

Refresh content

Run a content refresh to reset the Macmillan links and import the new due dates from the copy of the Macmillan course.

Note: Due dates must be set in the Macmillan course and cannot be set in Blackboard. Make sure to run a content refresh even if you are not changing Macmillan due dates.
