Please note: Some institutions prohibit instructors from altering the standard homepage used for their D2L/Brightspace course in any way, including the addition of widgets. If this is the case for you, then please follow the instructions in Add the Macmillan Course Tools Widget to a D2L/Brightspace content module instead.

To add the Macmillan Course Tools widget to your homepage, you will have to:

  1. create a copy of your default homepage
  2. apply the homepage copy as your active course homepage
  3. add the Macmillan Tools widget to the homepage copy

Follow the steps detailed in this article to add the Macmillan Course Tools Widget to your D2L/Brightspace course home page.

Click Course Admin

On the D2L/Brightspace course homepage click the Course Admin option in the course navigation bar. D2L/Brightspace will display the Course Administration page.

Click Homepages

On the Course Administration page, click Homepages.


Copy your course

On the Homepages panel, click the drop-down arrow next to your course’s default homepage and click Copy.


Make the course copy the active homepage

Click the drop-down arrow for the Active Homepage box, select the homepage copy you just created and click Apply.


D2L/Brightspace will confirm that the active homepage has been changed.


Click the course copy to edit

Click the name of the homepage copy you just created.


Click Add Widget

Scroll down the Edit Homepage panel until you see the homepage layout. Select one of the medium sized or larger home page panels that are available and click the Add Widgets button for it.


Add Macmillan Course Tools

On the Add Widgets panel, select Macmillan Course Tools and click Add. Then click Save and Close.

Confirm Macmillan Course Tools is on your course homepage

Return to the course homepage and confirm that the Macmillan Course Tools widget is now available there.
