Throughout these administrator articles the D2L/Brightspace LMS is referred to as D2L or D2L LMS. Macmillan Learning is referred to as Macmillan or MHE.

Note: The integration of a D2L LMS with Macmillan must be coordinated with a Macmillan Sales Engineer. The D2L LMS administrator cannot complete the integration setup without input from a Macmillan Sales Engineer. Macmillan’s deep integration is supported for only Macmillan’s eLearning Specialist or Sales Engineer.

After Macmillan’s eLearning Specialist or Sales Engineer has had an initial conversation with the school’s D2L administrator to jointly review the school’s preferred implementation strategy and other requirements, they will arrange for the “on-boarding” call. During the on-boarding call, which is usually facilitated using an online WebEx session, they will walk through the process of setting up the integration. The objective of the call is to complete integration setup in the school’s D2L Production environment, including any testing that may be required, and to clear use of the integration service by interested faculty.

To ensure that a D2L LMS on-boarding session can be completed successfully, a few facts about the school’s adoption and LMS installation should be known so that Macmillan’s Sales Engineer can complete certain preparatory tasks in advance of the on-boarding call.

Instructor name(s), title(s), and course(s)

Who are the instructors? Which Macmillan titles do they intend to use? Have they already created and activated their Macmillan courses?

It would be helpful to know the name of the instructor and the name of the Macmillan course ID of the Macmillan product for at least one course. The Macmillan Sales Engineer and the D2L LMS administrator may use this information during the testing portion of their on-boarding call.

If instructor course details are not available at the time of the on-boarding, the Macmillan Sales Engineer will provide a test course and user credentials.

Base URL for D2L installation

What is the base URL for the school’s D2L installation? MHE needs this to create the school’s LMS installation profile in the LMSLink middleware.

Ideally, this information will be available before the on-boarding. However, the D2L administrator can bring this information to the call, and the Macmillan Sales Engineer can create the school’s LMS installation profile at that time.


The Macmillan Sales Engineer will defer to the school’s D2L administrator on whether the integration setup will be first completed and tested in a “Test” D2L environment before proceeding with setup and testing in the school's D2L Production environment.
