These instructions describe how to set up FlipIt as an approved LTI Tool for use in your Moodle course, where LTI stands for Learning Tools Interoperability. Note that before you get started, you should be sure to have a KeySecret, and Tool URL. If you don’t have any of these, you can get them from your Macmillan Learning support agent.

Go to your Moodle course

Enter the course in your school's Moodle system and Turn editing on.

Add activity

Add an activity where you want the FlipIt link to be.

Select "External Tool"

Choose External Tool and click Add.

Click the "Show more..." link

Name activity

Fill in the Activity name. For example, "FlipIt assignments link."

External tool type

For External tool type, select the plus sign (+) to enter the Tool settings.

Tool settings

Fill in the Tool name, Tool base URLConsumer key, and Shared secret. The Tool base URL must be gateway.mnv-tech.com. The rest of the information can be provided to you by a Macmillan Learning support agent.


In the Privacy section, select Force SSL and Save. This will automatically close the Tool settings page.

Back on the "Adding a new External Tool" page

Select the new tool from the External tool type drop down list and make sure the Consumer key and Shared secret are removed here, otherwise you will get a 401 error due to invalid key/secret.


Launch container

Be sure to select New window for the Launch container.


Also make sure all the boxes in the Privacy section are checked (Share launcher's name with the toolShare launcher's email with the tool, and Accept grades from the tool).

Click "Save and return to course"

Inform students

Send your class the instructions for Student Single-Sign-On.
