General Geolocation Tips
  1. Check that you have location services enabled for the Reef application.
  2. Check that you’re connected to WiFi or have internet connection.
  3. Use WiFi! WiFi significantly improves the accuracy of geolocation. If WiFi is off, we have to use backup methods to determine your location.
  4. If your location is jumpy or incorrect, attempt a restart of your WiFi or phone.
  5.  Stay in one place! You’ll get a better reading if you’re not moving about the classroom.

Web Browser Geolocation Tips

The first time you attempt to check-in to an Attendance session, your web browser will ask for location access. You must accept this permission in order to successfully check in.

In each browser, you can modify location permissions by following the directions below.

Chrome
  1. Select the Menu icon > Settings > Show advanced settings
  2. In the "Privacy" section, click Content settings
  3. Scroll down to the Location section
  4. Click Manage exceptions and select to allow Reef access to location
Firefox
  1. Navigate to the Reef website
  2. In Firefox: Select the Tools menu > Page Info > Permissions tab
  3. Change the setting for Share Location to allow Reef location access
Safari
  1. You can reset all website authorizations in Safari by choosing Reset Safari from the Safari menu. Select the "Reset all location warnings" option in the Reset Safari window
Internet Explorer
  1. Select Tools (gear icon) > Internet Options > Privacy
  2. Uncheck the Never allow websites to request your physical location box
  3. Click OK. You may need to Clear Sites in order receive the prompt again
Additional Notes:
  • We recommend using the latest versions of Chrome or Firefox for the best experience and accuracy.
  • If you are receiving a notification that location is off or unsupported, this may be due to interference from an adblocker. Therefore, we recommend turning off any adblockers until you've successfully checked-in.
  • If your location is incorrect on a web browser, try clearing your cache. It may be that an old file is being stored and affecting your location update. Visiting Google Maps can also trigger a location update.

iOS Geolocation Tips

First, ensure you’re allowing Reef to access your location while using the app. You can verify the setting toggle for location is on for “While Using the App” from Settings > Reef.

If you think it is taking a long time or your accuracy is off when attempting to use Reef, it may be due to your device’s GPS settings.
  1. Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services.
  2. Ensure the settings toggle is set to on.
  3. You can also review Reef’s access to location services from this page in the app list below. Reef location services should be enabled “While Using the App.”
If you continue to have trouble, try fully turning off the GPS location.
  1. Close the Reef app first.
  2. Go into settings and turn on airplane mode. Wait 30 seconds – 1 minute.
  3. Turn airplane mode off.
  4. Re-open Reef and attempt to check-in again.
If this does not solve your issue, you should try restarting your phone.

Android Geolocation Tips

If you’re running a later version of Android, you may be able to control location access on an app by app basis. To check Reef’s access settings:
  1. Go to your Settings, then select Apps.
  2. Choose Reef, then Permissions.
  3. Make sure the toggle is set to On for “Location”
If you think it is taking a long time or your accuracy is off when attempting to use Reef, it may be due to your device’s GPS settings.

Under Settings > Location:
  1. Verify that the toggle is set to On for Location
  2. Verify that High Accuracy Mode is enabled under Location > Mode > High Accuracy
Note: Power Saving Mode and Device/GPS Only are less reliable and less accurate modes for determining location. The High Accuracy setting will get you the best results for checking in.

  2. Go into settings and turn on airplane mode. Wait 30 seconds – 1 minute.
  3. Turn airplane mode off.
