How to Manually Upload Scores from iClicker Cloud to Desire2Learn

You can manually integrate iClicker Cloud with Desire2Learn by exporting iClicker Cloud scores and uploading the scores to the Desire2Learn gradebook. 

Important: Manual integration requires your students to enter their Desire2Learn username in the Student ID field of their Reef account.

Export a Desire2Learn-formatted .csv from iClicker Cloud

Navigate to your iClicker Cloud online gradebook

Either click the Launch Gradebook button from the iClicker Cloud desktop software or go to the iClicker website and sign in with your instructor credentials.

Export your Grades File

Click the Export button in the top right corner of the online gradebook.


Choose Sessions for Export

Select Desire2Learn Format from the menu, then select the session(s) you wish to export. Click Export to download a .csv file with your session data for the selected sessions.

Review the exported Usernames

Students with blank or unrecognized Username data (from the iClicker Cloud Student ID) will not have their scores uploaded. Desire2Learn does not use the Last NameFirst Name, and Email columns; however, you may want to use this information to notify students who need to correct their Reef profile information.

Delete unwanted grade items

The exported file contains a grade item for the total points as well as grade items for the individual session scores. You should delete either the total or the individual session columns to avoid counting scores twice. Although Desire2Learn provides an interface to selectively import grade items, deleting the columns now will save you time later.

Go to Grades page in Desire2Learn

Sign into Desire2Learn. Select your desired course then click the Assessments option and choose Grades from the menu.

Click "Enter Grades" then "Import"

Choose your exported iClicker Cloud file

  1. Click Choose File and navigate to the iClicker Cloud export file.

  2. Select the check box for Create new grade item.

  3. Click the Continue button to go to the next step.

Select grade items to add to your Desire2Learn gradebook

The iClicker Cloud exported file includes a grade item for each iClicker Cloud session as well as one for the total score. If you haven't already deleted the unwanted grade items, you can now choose to either upload the individual sessions or total points. Importing both will double-count points. Use the checkboxes to select the grade items you want to add to your Desire2Learn gradebook. Items not selected will be ignored.

Click the Continue button when you have completed making your selections.

Set the grade item properties

Specify the number of Maximum Points and Weight for each grade item selected in the previous step. These values are not imported from iClicker Cloud and must be set.

Click the Continue button when the properties have been set for all of the grade items.

Review errors and warnings from unrecognized students in the file

Student entries that have a blank or unrecognized username will not have their scores uploaded into Desire2Learn. If you see a table of errors and warnings, not all of your students have correctly entered their Desire2Learn username into iClicker Cloud's Student ID field.

Preview the imported grade items before importing to Desire2Learn

Students with recognized Desire2Learn usernames are shown in the preview along with their score for each of the selected grade items to import.

Upon clicking the Import button, your selected sessions will appear as grade items in Desire2Learn's gradebook and student scores will be uploaded for each session.
