Instructor Guide: Create the iClicker Cloud Association Link in Sakai

iClicker Cloud uses Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) standards to publish scores from students' iClicker Reef accounts to the LMS gradebook with a single click. This integration is an alternative to the manual export/import process with external CSV files. Before you can proceed, ensure that your LMS admin has enabled iClicker as an external tool.

Currently, iClicker Cloud is a single column upload. Every time you sync your scores, the column will be automatically updated to reflect the new total.

Note: If you are a TA you will need professor credentials to complete this process.

Go to iClicker course settings

Select your iClicker Cloud course and open the course settings. Click either the gear icon in the side panel or the Edit button on your course dashboard.


Select single-column grade sync

From the Settings window, select the Grade Sync tab and select "Single-column grade sync." Click Copy Link to copy the course-specific link. This link is unique for each iClicker Cloud course. You need to follow these directions for each course you are teaching and paste the specific link into your corresponding LMS course.


Navigate to the Manage Tools tab in Sakai

From your Sakai course home page, click the Site Info option in the side menu bar, then click the Manage Tools tab. Scroll past the General tools and expand the Plugin Tools section to view the contents.


Select the iClicker Cloud tool

Locate and select the iClicker Cloud tool option then click the Continue button. If you cannot find this tool, contact your administrator for assistance. Note that your iClicker Cloud tool may have been named differently than the example below.


Paste in your iClicker Cloud link and complete set-up

From the Customize tool instance page, paste the LMS link from your iClicker Cloud course settings in the Launch URL entry field then click the Continue button. Review the information on the Confirming site tools edits page then click the Finish button to complete the setup.

Note: Sakai will automatically add a grade item to your Gradebook the first time you synchronize your student scores. The grade item will be worth 100 points and won’t automatically be included in your Sakai course total. To edit the iClicker Cloud grade item, click the arrow icon in the column header and select Edit Item Details from the menu that opens.

From the Edit Gradebook item window, select the option to include the item in course grade calculations. If you want iClicker Cloud scores to be worth a value other than 100 points, edit this number then re-sync your iClicker Cloud scores to update. You may need to refresh your browser window to see the scores update.

The link is now ready for students to use

Direct your students to log into Sakai and use the tool to access their Reef student accounts.
Now you are prepared to synchronize grades from iClicker Cloud to your LMS.
