The installed version of iClicker Cloud uses an MSI (Microsoft Installer) package to write the application to the system. System administrators will find network deployments are simpler and faster using the MSI installer.
Note: Installing this version of iClicker Cloud requires administrative privileges. The standalone version of the software can still be downloaded for users who do not have administrative rights.
Advantages of the installed version over the standalone version:
Seamless web-to-desktop experience*
When iClicker Cloud is installed, it recognizes requests from the instructor website that allows instructors to launch the desktop application to start a poll or quiz from the browser. The standalone version cannot be launched from the web.
Easier to update
When a new version of iClicker Cloud is available, the installed version is able to download the update, replace old files, and then seamlessly launch the new version--all without administrator rights. The standalone version, on the other hand, simply links to the iClicker web page for the instructor to manage the process.
*Mac supports web-to-desktop communication without requiring installation. The standalone version of Mac supports starting polls and quizzes from the web.
