Frequently Asked Questions: Analytics and Reporting

How do you attain student data?
Intellus accesses student data in the LMS through API tools.

Is data collection at the institutional level or shared amongst your institutional clients?
Institution data is private unless institutions choose to share data amongst other clients.

What is included in reporting?
An overview of the course-level data and reports available can be found on the Analytics & Reports page.

How frequently is the data in the report being updated?
As students engage with content, the data is updated and reported in the platform in real-time.

What is the difference between impressions, views, and engagements?
Impressions indicate if content was visible to students. Views indicate if a student clicked on the content. Engagements indicate that a student has clicked on the content and spent at least 10 seconds on the page.

Can we download the Intellus data in an exportable format?
Yes. You can download as an .xls file.

How does Intellus' content analytics differ from those available in the LMS?
Most learning management systems have some analytic capabilities for content hosted within the LMS but have limited engagement data for any content hosted in the institution’s other repositories, commercial libraries, or elsewhere on the internet. Intellus tracks student impressions, views, and time spent engaging on the material across all content, regardless of source.

How do Intellus' analytics differ from what is provided in Civitas or other "success prediction" offerings?
Intellus analytics provides real-time results for a student’s granular interactions with course material and how such activity relates to the curriculum. This allows for immediate faculty or advisor intervention based on student activity within hours or days of the student starting the course. This complements Civitas’ more longitudinal view of a student’s profile at the institution, which includes the whole of activity of a student to determine risk factors.

What if I want to see the data in a way that is not in one of the reports you are showing me?
We can create custom reports for the institution. There is a professional services fee that will vary based on the scope of the project. Please contact for more information.
