LaunchPad contains resources for you and your students. In this tutorial, we'll take a detailed look at both types separately. Let's begin with student resources. Click the following link to go to the landing page of LaunchPad for Statistics and Probability with Applications.

What resources are available for my students?

From your LaunchPad home page, click Resources, then Content by Type. You'll see a list of all the resources available to your students. We'll now take a closer look at each.

Data Sets

The larger data sets in each chapter have been saved in Excel format.

A complete online version of the textbook, the e-Book is every word on every page of the printed text, including all images and exercises. In addition to LaunchPad’s notes and highlighting features, teachers can easily hide chapters or sections that they don’t cover in their course, rearrange the order of chapters and sections, and add their own content directly into the e-Book.

With exercises for key terms in each chapter, Flashcards provide students an exercise to learn important events and phrases. In quiz mode, students type the correct term in the space provided below the definition; they can see right away whether they’re correct or not, making this a great practice exercise to get familiar with new words and phrases.

Statistical Applets

Fourteen applets provide students with opportunities to perform statistical simulations, explore data, and generate results.

TI-Data Files

The larger data sets in each chapter have been saved in TI-84 and TI-Nspire formats.

Welcome Page

The welcome page provides an introduction to LaunchPad. It explains the Welcome Unit Quiz and provides answers to a few Frequently Asked Questions.

Welcome Unit Quiz

In order to get familiar with LaunchPad, see how it works, and know what it contains, you can test your students’ understanding by having them take the brief quiz included in this unit. The quiz will show students where something is (like how to find their grades) and then ask them to confirm that they understand. Hopefully this will allow them to see ALL that LaunchPad offers, and use the product to its fullest.

Worked Example Videos

Jason Molesky, Monica Debold, and Jonathan Osters provide step-by-step guidance and explanation for every example in the text, just as teachers do in the classroom.

Worked Exercise Videos

The “For Practice, Try…” exercises are featured in step-by-step instructional videos to give students help when they need it.

What resources are available for instructors?

From the same screen where you've been viewing student resources, you can scroll down to see those available to instructors. Let's now take a closer look at each.

Chapter Figures and Photos

For teachers who prefer to build their own presentation materials, we offer each image and graph from the textbook, available to download as JPEG files.

Completed Worked Solutions

Written by Luke Wilcox, complete, worked solutions to all problems in the text are included. Care has been taken to ensure consistency with the language and terminology used in the text. Solutions are also provided for the Extra Lessons.

Extra Lessons

The eleven extra lessons that are available to augment the coverage in the student edition are available as PDFs to share digitally or in print with your students as dictated by your course requirements.

Lecture Slides

Created by Jason Molesky, these enhanced, customizable chapter-by-chapter PowerPoint slides contain graphs, data tables, and bulleted lists of key concepts. These Lecture PowerPoint presentations highlight important ideas, definitions, and notation in each section, and include many examples from the text. These PowerPoints may also be used as a review tool for students.

Lindsay Gallas has prepared two or three quizzes for each chapter that map to logical groups of lessons and one test per chapter to give to students or to use as models for creating similar exams using the computerized test bank. Solutions for each test and quiz are also included.

Teacher Resources

All of the handouts written by Doug Tyson and referenced in the Teacher’s Edition to accompany Statistics and Probability with Applications, Third Edition are found in PDF format.

Teacher Videos

Brief chapter overviews by the text’s authors, Daren Starnes and Josh Tabor, and Lesson Overview Videos by Monica Debold and Jonathan Osters offer advice on what to emphasize in a given section, how to anticipate and overcome common pitfalls, and tips for helping students realize success in the course.
