You can offer your students three different options for participating in class: iClicker remotes, iClicker Reef (on a smartphone, tablet or laptop), or both. Choose the option that works best for your class. Each option has a slightly different set of registration instructions.
If your students are using iClicker remotes
Students can register their iClicker remotes directly through a link in your school's Learning Management System (Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, Desire2Learn, or Sakai), or at the iClicker website. Make sure you inform students where they need to register their remotes based on which scenario is relevant for your course. Students with a used iClicker remote may need to pay a one-time registration fee of $6.99 USD when they register at the iClicker website, but if iClicker is integrated with your LMS students will not need to pay for a used remote fee.
If your students are using iClicker Reef on smartphones, tablets, or laptops
If you are allowing students to participate using iClicker Reef on their smartphones, tablets, or laptops, you must enable Reef in your iClicker Classic course. All students using iClicker Reef will need an iClicker Reef account. If they have not yet created one, they can do so by downloading the mobile app via the App Store or Google Play, or by visiting the Reef student website.
Once they are logged in, they will add your course in Reef. If you will be integrating iClicker with your LMS, students should be instructed to enter the same student ID into Reef that is used in their LMS accounts.
Upon creating a Reef account, students receive a two week free-trial period with Reef. After that point, they will need to purchase a Reef subscription or obtain an access code. If students already have a Reef account, they simply add your course in their account. Students should not create a duplicate account.
If students plan to solely use an iClicker remote, they do not need to purchase a Reef subscription or obtain an access code, as long as they have properly registered their remote in their account.
