ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM

Colleges are increasingly asking instructors to take advantage of students' engagement with technology to teach online or web-enhanced courses. The challenge is deciding how to get started and what materials to put online.

In this webinar, Wendy Bass, Distance Education Coordinator at Pierce College, shows you how using technology to:

  • Extend learning beyond the lecture
  • Spend more time teaching and less on course management
  • Smooth the transition from teaching-centered to student-centered learning
  • Provide anytime-access to course documents

Discussions include:

  • The benefits of web-enhancing your course
  • Getting started: 1) choosing from what's readily available (jing, slideshare, teachertube, blogging); 2) adding documents and resources; and 3) creating materials
  • Integrating online materials into your course and establishing expectations for your students
  • Integrating online discussions (and assessments of those discussions) into your course
  • Setting up online assignments that go beyond quizzing
  • Creating short informative videos to explain concepts with which students often struggle
