Webinar featuring Jane Halonen. Presidential candidate Jeb Bush recently predicted a dire future for individuals who choose the psychology major. He suggested that the degree was at best a pathway for employment in fast food. A twitter campaign (#thispsychmajor) responded with an impressive array of occupational choices students can make when armed with a psychology degree, but critics have suggested the campaign struck a defensive tone and possibly contributes to more misunderstanding. In this webinar we will examine the misconceptions that the public and politicians hold regarding the nature of psychology and propose some steps that psychology educators can take to improve public perceptions of the value of the major.
